Universal V - Water Cut Monitor

For more than 50 years, Drexelbrook has been the world leader in capacitive based water cut measurement. We offer the highest pressure and temperature ratings in the industry and our capacitive probes can handle pressures up to 1500 Psi and temperatures up to 450°F.

Our popular Universal V CM Series is a high quality water cut meter, also known as a water cut monitor or BS&W, with a range of 0-50% in light oil and 0-80% in heavy oil.

It is built upon the Drexelbrook expertise in RF Admittance that allows the electronics to ignore paraffin and other coatings that buildup on the probe.

The Universal V CM features a unique Cote Shield that is designed into the Universal IV CM series and enables the instrument to ignore a pre-determined length of the sensing element.

This water cut meter comes with a Perm-A-Seal sensing element that does not require epoxy coatings that wear out and require expensive servicing.

Using this water cut meter together with our HRTWin or new STExplorer PC software field configuration is possible from anywhere along the two wire loop.

The Universal V CM sensing element is selected based on pipe size, wetted parts, NACE requirement and pressure/temperature. Drexelbrook offers a wide range of probes to fit virtually any application required.

All water cut meters features a built-in LCD display and keypad and comes from the factory pre-calibrated and requires only one point validation.

The Universal V CM water cut meter is intrinsically safe and approved for Class I, Div1 hazardous locations.

Water Cut Meter - Density Compensation Module

Drexelbrook offers a Density Compensation Module (DCM) for its Universal IV™ & V In-Line Water Cut Monitors (CM). The module automatically compensates for density changes that may occur in the composition of products and reduces the calibration requirements due to those changes.

The Universal IV & V CMs are designed for high-accuracy water in oil measurement. The DCM allows the Universal IV & V CMs to maintain its stated accuracy with variations in density up to 10 API, ensuring measurement accuracy from load to load regardless of changes in product composition.

The Universal V utilizes an electrical measurement (capacitance) and correlates that to water cut (% of oil in water). Those measurements can be affected by changes in density. Density compensation is done to correct for changes in electrical properties that may impact output measurement and is particularly suitable for midstream refinery and oil pipeline operators.

Along with the optional Density Compensation Module, the Universal V CM features an in-line probe design that allows it to analyze a large representative sample of flowing fluid in real time. Its sensing element extends into the main process line, taking an average of the capacitive property of the fluid over its entire length. That ensures a smoother and more accurate response, regardless of the mixture. The monitor’s onboard electronics then computes the relationship between capacitance change and water cut.

The Universal V CM also offers the industry’s highest pressure and temperature capabilities (1500 PSI and temperatures up to 450°F) as well as field-proven Cote-Shield™ technology, which ignores coating buildup on the probe. In addition, a temperature-compensation (TC) version is available that measures product temperature internally and calculates a true water cut reading at any temperature as long as the water is in liquid state (eg. 32°F to 212°F at ambient pressure).

Applications for the Universal V CM include automatic well testing (AWT), lease automatic custody transfer (LACT), basic sediment and water (BS&W), separation vessels, pipeline slug detection, truck unloading, pipe protection, dielectric analysis and machinery lube oil monitoring.

Techical Catalog

A New Perspective on the Benefits of a Bridle

SAVINGS:
Reduces the number of process connections required on an ASME vessel, in turn, lowering engineering, design and construction costs of the vessel.
SAFETY:
Transfers potential leak points from costly, direct-to-vessel connections to the less expensive MIB. The MIB can be removed, repaired, and pressure tested independent of the vessel.
SIMPLICITY:
Simplifies the design and implantation of more comprehensive level and control solutions on critical applications/vessels with a minimum number of process connections.
ISOLATION:
Isolates the level measurement from vessel process dynamics, internal obstructions, and fill/drain lines providing a much more stable indication, while at the same time minimizing startup and commissioning time.

Displacer switches – single, dual and tri-switch series

Single-Stage Switches

Series A10 displacer type level measurement units are wide differential units calibrated to actuate as a liquid level reaches a given displacer and to deactuate when the level reaches a second displacer. Single stage, wide differential displacer switches are factory calibrated yet field-adjustable to operate over a wide level differential band.

The minimum differential band is approximately 6 inches (152 mm) in water and varies somewhat with liquid specific gravity. The maximum differential is determined by the length of the displacer suspension cable. Series A15 units are calibrated to operate over a narrow level differential band and are ideally suited for liquid level alarm applications on either high or low level.

Dual-Stage Switches

Series B10 displacer type level measurement units are wide differential tandem switches that are factory calibrated with a choice of several switch operating sequences designed to meet virtually any application.

Series B15 units are narrow differential tandem switches that are factory calibrated. Each switch actuates at a different level.

Tri-Stage Switches

Series C10 displacer type level measurement units utilize three electrically separate control signals in a selected sequence in response to liquid level changes.

Series C15 units are wide differential switches with a choice of several operating sequences combining wide and narrow level differential and are factory calibrated.
